I Don’t Work Hard by Carol Lipnik I want everyone to like me But I don’t work hard at being likable No, I don’t work hard at being likable No, I don’t work hard at being likable. I’m just looking for some lovin’ But I don’t know how to be lovable No, I don’t know how to be lovable No, I don’t know how. Ahhhhhhhh Ahhhhhhhh Ahhhhhhhh Ahhhhhhhh Now that it’s sunset, the clouds are giving way, Sun’s coming out at the end of the day, Just when I learned to be kind, Life is so destructible. The light is slipping away, Just when I open my eyes, And life is slipping away, Will I ever seize this day?! I want everyone to like me, But I don’t work hard at being likable, No, I don’t work hard at being likable, No, I don’t work hard.

Thrice Toss These Oaken Ashes By Thomas Campion Thrice toss these oaken ashes in the air, Thrice sit though mute in this enchanted chair, And thrice three times tie up This true love’s knot. And murmur soft he will Or he will not. Go burn these poisonous weeds in yon blue fire, These screech owl’s feathers and this prickling briar, This cyphers gathered at a dead man’s grave, That all thy fears and cares an end may have. Then come kind spirits, dance with me around, Melt his hard heart with your melodious sound. In vain are all the charms I can devise, He has an art to break them with his eyes. In vain are all the charms I can devise, He has an art to break them with his eyes.

Tick Bite by Carol Lipnik The flame that burns within you Is the same flame that burns you, You’ve got the venom, You’ve got the venom, And you’ve got the medicine. You’re your own worst enemy, You’re your own best friend, You’ve got the poison, You’ve got the poison, And you’ve got the medicine. One second you’re so happy, Next second you’re so red, You’ve got the power, You’ve got the power of reflection. One second you’re so happy, Next second you’re so red, You’ve got the power, You’ve got the power of reflection. The flame that burns within you, Is the same flame that burns you.

A Pure Dose of Mercy by Carol Lipnik I’m a glass half empty, You’re a glass half full, Half of my life, Half of my life, Half of my life, Is yours. Your empty cup, Is full of clear sky, All of my life, All of my life, All of my life, I’ve been the cloud, Going by. Who am I? Why do I, Need your approval, To be? If I’m asleep in your dream, Don’t wake me up, If you’ve had enough, Of me. Because the truth would shatter, My emergency cover. Give me a pure dose, Of mercy. Give me a pure dose, Of mercy. Give me a pure dose, Of mercy.

about

The swirling song cycle that is Blue Forest is an immersive, dreamscape. Luminous revelations of natural wonder, the fragility of human nature and the natural world intertwine with the enveloping chaos of our times.
The songs were developed by Carol during an artist residency at Yaddo while staying in the Stone Tower Studio (built in 1893).
Produced by Kyle Sanna who also plays guitar, ukulele and synths, and featuring Matt Kanelos on piano, Wurlitzer, harmonies, and synths, and Mathais Künzli on percussion. All songs are by Carol Lipnik except Thrice Toss These Oaken Ashes which was written in 1617 by the Elizabethan poet and songwriter Thomas Campion.

about

Carol Lipnik New York, New York

Carol Lipnik’s voice is a thing of wonder, soaring across four octaves with remarkable fluidity, gently cradling listeners in its sublimely sustained tone. A poet of beauty, decay and desolation, Carol sets her lyrics in spare, harmonically rich soundscapes. Mythical imagery—the moon, crows, wolves, boats and journeys—evoke the eternal world of nature and hint at some past or future devastation. ... more
